Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (RQF)

This course is suitable for:

• Individuals who want to become qualified assessors

• Trainers, tutors, and classroom practitioners

• Workplace supervisors and mentors assessing vocational skills

• Those delivering simulated training or off-the-job learning

• Training provider and college staff

• Anyone aged 18+ with a minimum Level 2 standard of English

 

No prior assessor qualifications are required.

What you’ll learn

 

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to assess vocational learners safely, consistently and professionally. You will learn how to:
 

• Understand the principles and practices of assessment

• Plan and prepare assessments of vocational skills and knowledge

• Select appropriate assessment methods

• Carry out assessments in classroom, simulated or training environments

• Judge learner evidence effectively

• Provide constructive, developmental feedback

• Maintain accurate assessment records

Course Structure

To achieve this qualification, learners must complete two mandatory units, totalling 9 credits:
 

1. Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment

You will learn to:

• Explain the function and principles of assessment

• Understand roles, responsibilities and regulations

• Compare assessment methods

• Plan holistic assessment approaches

• Ensure evidence is valid, sufficient, authentic and current

2. Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding

You will learn to:

• Prepare and manage assessments using a variety of methods

• Assess learner performance and knowledge using valid assessment decisions

• Support learners appropriately

• Provide feedback and determine progression needs

• Maintain accurate and confidential assessment records

• Apply equality, diversity and legal requirements

3. Assess occupational competence in the work environment 

This unit requires trainee assessors to plan, carry out and review assessments of learners in a real work setting. It is practical, hands-on, and forms a core part of becoming a qualified assessor. 

You must plan how you will assess a learner’s competence using a range of assessment methods. Your plan must show how you will use:

• Observation of performance in the workplace

• Examining products of work

• Questioning the learner

• Discussion with the learner

• Witness testimony

• Looking at learner statements

• Recognising prior learning (RPL)
