The TQUK Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (RQF) is designed for individuals who want to assess learners’ vocational knowledge, skills and understanding in training centres, classrooms, workshops, and other off-the-job or simulated learning environments.

 

This qualification gives you the knowledge and practical skills needed to assess competently and confidently.

This course is ideal for anyone looking to start a career as an assessor or add assessment responsibilities to their existing role.

No prior assessor qualifications are required.

What you’ll learn

Course Structure

To achieve this qualification, learners must complete two mandatory units, totalling 9 credits:
 

1. Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment

You will learn to:

  • Explain the function and principles of assessment

  • Understand roles, responsibilities and regulations

  • Compare assessment methods

  • Plan holistic assessment approaches

  • Ensure evidence is valid, sufficient, authentic and current

  • Understand quality assurance and standardisation processes

2. Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding

You will learn to:

  • Prepare and manage assessments using a variety of methods

  • Assess learner performance and knowledge using valid assessment decisions

  • Support learners appropriately

  • Provide feedback and determine progression needs

  • Maintain accurate and confidential assessment records

  • Apply equality, diversity and legal requirements

3. Assess occupational competence in the work environment 

This unit requires trainee assessors to plan, carry out and review assessments of learners in a real work setting. It is practical, hands-on, and forms a core part of becoming a qualified assessor. 

You must plan how you will assess a learner’s competence using a range of assessment methods. Your plan must show how you will use:

  • Observation of performance in the workplace

  • Examining products of work

  • Questioning the learner

  • Discussion with the learner

  • Witness testimony

  • Looking at learner statements

  • Recognising prior learning (RPL)

Award: Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (RQF)

Credits: 15 credits total

Units: 8 mandatory units

Guided Learning Hours (GLH): 84 hours

Total Qualification Time (TQT): 150 hours

Assessment: Internally assessed portfolio (no exams)
