No previous leadership experience is needed — just Level 1 literacy and numeracy (or equivalent) and a desire to learn. The recommended minimum age is 16.

Core Team Leading Principles

(Mandatory units 1–3)

✨ Principles of Team Leading

  • Characteristics of effective leaders and leadership styles

  • Team dynamics, team development and managing conflict

  • Setting targets, monitoring workflow and problem solving within a team

  • Supporting teams through change and keeping people motivated

 

✨ Understand Business

  • Different types of organisations (public, private, voluntary) and structures

  • Internal and external business influences (including SWOT analysis)

  • Business planning, budgeting, risk and key financial terminology

  • Health and safety responsibilities and sustainable ways of working

  • Management responsibilities, authority and accountability

 

✨ Understand How to Communicate Work-Related Information

  • Principles of clear written and verbal communication in the workplace

  • Choosing the right communication method for different audiences

  • Preparing for effective meetings – agendas, documents and objectives

  • Checking accuracy, reliability and confidentiality of information

 

Optional Specialist Units

 

You’ll also complete at least five optional units to match your role or career goals.

  • Customer service and problem resolution

  • Equality and diversity in the workplace

  • Developing working relationships with colleagues

  • Health and safety procedures

  • Handling information and mail

These units allow you to tailor the programme to your context — whether you lead in customer service, care, hospitality, retail, administration or other sectors.

Qualification Details

Award: Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Team Leading (RQF)

Reg. No: 603/2997/X

Level: Level 2 (GCSE equivalent)

Credits: Combination of mandatory and optional units totalling required credits (3 mandatory + at least 5 optional units)

Guided Learning Hours: 170 hours (tutor-supported learning)

Total Qualification Time: 190 hours (including approx. 20 hours self-study)

Assessment: Internally set and marked coursework/portfolio — no exams

Delivery: Online learning with tutor support and flexible study

Entry Requirements: Age 16+ and Level 1 English and Maths (or equivalent) recommended
